7/4 Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 ok, i went from windows 98 se to windows xp. i can't seem to install my nortons anti-virius and interent security also i get a message saying my cd burner software won't work with xp I've heard that you should wipe the hard drive (reformat) before upgrading. I never had to, I just buy a new machine. Must be nice to be so rich! When you write software for a day job, it's not a big deal. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Roxio EZ CD Creator must be updated to version 5.0 (or was it 4.0?) or better to work with WinXP. Earlier versions will not run. Norton requires Anti-virus 2003 or higher for WinXP. Don't blame Microsoft for these snafus... both are the software suppliers doing. They chose WinXP as a means to force people to buy upgrades to their software. In Roxio's case, it seemed to hurt them pretty badly. They hit hard times since XP's intro and their decision to force people to buy a new version coupled with their decision to charge more for the OEM version (causing Dell to switch to Nero for while) really put a dent in their market share. Nero is coming on strong. Unfortunately, I still prefer EZ CD Creator. Later, Kevin Quote

couw Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 you'd have to be more precise in describing your problem. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 26, 2004 Author Report Posted July 26, 2004 every time i click on internet exploder my computer getting tons of pop ups and asking for me to download this and download that. i had nortons but i guess it's not compatible with xp, i don't know ss1 Quote
couw Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 seems you have caught some spy ware, install and run Ad Aware (google link, multiple downloads), that should help you get rid of most if not all of the nasties. Then increase the security settings on Internet Explorer to keep you from catching too many new ones. Go to the Microsoft page to see how it's done (link for MS Internet Explorer 6). Run Ad Aware regularly, there's a "check for updates" when you start the programme, run that every time you start it. Quote
BERIGAN Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Perhaps one of the computer nerds...err I mean experts, Can explain to me something that has been bugging me for awhile. Why is it that with MOST web sites addresses, you don't need to type in www first, but if I just type in mediaplay.com for example it can't find the site? Also, I scratch my head as to why my internet explorer browser will remember some sites....forever! the one shown here was one my Dad went to, oh I don't know 2 years ago???? any time I type in the letter S this comes up first...no matter how many times I toss my cookies, do disc clean up, go into temporary internet folders and clean them out as well....(In my address bar it show "scrappage bill defeated", and when I click on it, it turns into this web page which isn't even active anymore! )http://www.shadetreemechanic.com/scrappage%20bill%20defeated.htm Other sites I frequent disappear on the other hand... espn.com if I don't go to it for 3-4 days won't show up in my address bar...now, I know that espn.com address is really http://espn.go.com is it the slight change in address that keeps it from sticking? Why is it that with MOST web sites addresses, you don't need to type in www first, but if I just type in mediaplay.com for example it can't find the site? Just do what I do (in MS IE).... type in the main part of the web address (the domain) like CNN and then press CTRL + ENTER on the key board. It will prepend the WWW. and append the .COM to whatever you type. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 (edited) Hopefully, the web site that keeps showing up when you type s isn't a porn site! The way you clear web site "memory" is the "Auto complete" settings. Click the Tools Menu and select Internet Options. Go to the "Content" tab and click on the "Auto Complete" button. Press the "Clear Forms" button and they'll all go away. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to remove just 1 remembered web site. This clears them all.
