Wien as of today September15th  2024 .... seeing is believing ....

I just got from a week long cruise along the Danube River. I was in Vienna on the 12th & 13th and the rain was torrential, with the howling winds blowing it horizontal. I nearly got blown into a street by the wind during one severe gust. The Viking river boat I was on got to Budapest on the 14th and it's looking like they might be stuck there for a while as the Danube river's locks are all closed for the foreseeable future. Even though our cruise was very rainy, we were very lucky we got to travel the river from Regensburg, Germany to Budapest before these floodwaters shut it down.

The Vienna River seen here with floodwaters is very dangerous. Usually small like a brook, it can swell up after a long rain period.

I live very near , just 15 minutes to go to that place, but it´s not dangerous because it´s more up the hill.

Before the Vienna River enters the City, it´s a naturally flowing small river where I sometimes go flyfishing for browntrout and rainbow trout, I have the angling paper for that river, so it´s legal.....

The first one is a shot of chorus girls playing chess backstage at the Latin Quarter nightclub on West 48th Street, just off Times Square in New York City, 1958.

The second is John Wayne playing chess on the set of Rio Bravo in 1958, watched by co-stars John Russell, Walter Brennan, Angie Dickinson and Dean Martin.

The third is Marcel Duchamp playing chess (of which he was very good - according to John Cage) on a sheet of glass in 1958.

This one is of Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair, 1968:

Thanks for the infos. And since I never was a fan of films, especially Westerns, since I don´t like to see all them rough men shootin´ around, I didn´t know anything about "Rio Bravo". And not being a chess player I only did read the Chess Nuvel.
So the main thing I had observed was the nice girl on that Rio Bravo photo. Had not known about the actress as not goin´to movies and only look at a real woman, but she had taste about dressin´ that´s for sure....

Didn't Duchamp give up art for a while to concentrate on chess? Sure I remember that from a biography

He pretty much gave up art for good after the Large Glass. There are all kinds of stories about his intense, some would say, "over-the-top" devotion to chess. He even lost a wife after 6 or 7 months of marriage because of his constant chess playing.
