Not really. The immediate context of the photo was political, but the detail and emotion transcends mere political immediacy. This is no more a "political" photograph than The Last Supper is a "religious" painting.

Frankly, with all the absolutist polarizing posturing in the political environs this day (on all sides), "political" has become synonymous with tripe/trivial/vulgar/demeaning/andallkinds of other words.
