clifford_thornton Posted May 18, 2017 Report Posted May 18, 2017 Sad news -- early Soundgarden was pretty tight and he was a hell of a vocalist. RIP. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/18/arts/music/chris-cornell-dead-soundgarden.html Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 18, 2017 Report Posted May 18, 2017 (edited) I never connected with Soundgarden (SG) particularly, but I did genuinely like Audiosave -- better than either SG or Rage Against The Machine even (a minority opinion, I know). And he was clearly a hell of a vocalist. My wife has been SG fan going barck to the early 90's, so the news came as quite a surprise to her this morning on NPR at 6:30am. clifford_thornton Posted May 18, 2017 Author Report Posted May 18, 2017 Never bothered w/ Audioslave myself -- guess Cornell committed suicide and that is especially sad. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted May 18, 2017 Report Posted May 18, 2017 I enjoyed early Soundgarden as well and saw them live in 1992(?)...it was the badmotorfinger tour I believe. Shocking news and I feel for his family... Quote
Scott Dolan Posted May 18, 2017 Report Posted May 18, 2017 The best vocalist to come out of the Grunge scene, hands down. Wasn't a huge Grunge fan, but Soundgarden did have some pretty amazing tunes. Outshined is one of the best to come out of any recent genre. Rest peacefully, brother. Quote

catesta Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) Audioslave wasn't for me but Soundgarden, hell yea. I've been reading about his wife saying no way he would knowingly commit suicide. Maybe that's true in some way but when are people going to learn that you can't just keep taking extra doses of shit like Ativan without it fucking you up to the point you're dead? Very sad, pitiful and stupid. Anyways, R.I.P Chris Cornell and thanks for the music. Edited May 19, 2017 by catesta Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 19, 2017 Author Report Posted May 19, 2017 yeah, surely the signs were there but it's hard to see when in the middle of things, even from the outside. I suppose it wasn't an autoerotic mistake? Anyway, this is an excellent primer and eulogy: http://pitchfork.com/features/afterword/10080-why-soundgardens-chris-cornell-was-more-than-just-a-grunge-frontman/ Quote
Justin V Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 Rest in peace, Mr. Cornell, and thank you for the music. Quote
