J.A.W. Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 (edited) I asked hat's Werner Uehlinger if he would reissue any Revelation albums by Warne Marsh (including Ne Plus Ultra, the album he reissued before) and Clare Fischer. I also asked him if he had set a date yet for a reissue of Anthony Braxton's 1979 Willisau date. Here's his reply: The plan is existing to reissue what I have released before. More Revelation is not possible. Due to the death of the owners. Fischer's tapes must be back at Fischer if my informations are correct. My own reissues depends the market. Also if I am able to find a new sponsoring for the label. Perhaps. Sorry I can not say you more. Thank you for your interest in the labels word. I try hard. Best regards, Werner X. Uehlinger Does anyone know who owns the Revelation tapes? Apparently Clare Fischer owns his Revelation recordings; I hope he'll have them reissued some day... Edited March 3, 2004 by J.A.W. Quote
king ubu Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Thanks for sharing this, Hans! The swiss jazz scene is having quite a hard time - the great Willisau jazz festival almost folded, too, because their sponsor decided jazz was not the right thing anymore to spread the word. Similar problems at hat, as far as I know. However, the hatOLOGY discs are coming pretty fast (almost too fast for me, to be honest!), and let's hope Uehlinger is able to continue as long as he wishes! Should some more people ask him about the Marsh? If he said it depends on the market, this might fasten things. ubu Quote

relyles Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Lets start a campaign to get Ne Plus Ultra reissued again. I came to Marsh to later to get the hat reissue when it was available. I have the Revelation LP and a CDR of the hat reissue. Its a great recording and I would love to get my hands on a copy of the CD. Quote
J.A.W. Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 (edited) I owned a few Revelation LPs way back in the 1970s and 1980s, and decided to do some research; unfortunately, I didn't find much. According to the first edition of the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, Revelation was established in 1965 in Los Angeles by John William Hardy and Jon Horwich, and moved to Gainesville, FL in the late 1970s. They released albums by Warne Marsh, Clare Fischer, Dennis Budimir, Tony Ortega (a few were also reissued on hat), Gary Foster, Joe Albany, Jerry Coker, Carmell Jones and Frank Strazzeri. Here's a label listing. Edited March 3, 2004 by J.A.W. Quote
mikeweil Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 I'd say Clare Fischer's recordings are most likely to be reissued on his own new label, here's a link to his website, send him a request. Some of the duos with Gary Foster were on Discovery, they are excellent. Quote

J.A.W. Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 Thanks for the info, Mike. I'll e-mail mr Fischer. Quote
Late Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 It looks like hat's will be the Mini-Me of Mosaics. Simply get the ones you want before they go OOP. As far as reissues, I hope Werner can stay in the game long enough to get more Braxton out, Cecil Taylor's One Too Many, the remaining Lacy's, and perhaps more Franz Koglmann. Certainly looks to be a waiting game. But, in the meantime, there's plenty of new releases ... Quote

Hans (and everybody else interested): Mr Uehlinger did reply two hours ago (while I was having dinner). He wrote that the Marsh will be reissued. No release date set yet, though. He added that this depends on the "course of business"... Let's stick to the good part: it will be reissued! ubu Quote
