Soulstation1 Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 the first season on dvd is out today. the movie out on friday, with the BIG snoop d o-double-g as huggy bear, fo sizzel tvland is also having a special later this week. ss1 Quote
wesbed Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 I haven't seen Starsky & Hutch in many years. I used to watch the hell out of it, though, back in the day. It seems like it was broadcast on Friday nights (but my memory could be bad). I've been seeing the recent advertisements for the S & H movie. It looks more, to me, like a parody than a serious attempt to recreate the TV series on the big screen. If my feelings are correct regarding the movie, I'm disappointed to see the classic 1970s series turned into a movie parody. I'd rather have seen a good attempt to recreate the series in all its classic demeanor. If I remember correctly, there was some great 1970s boogaloo-type music played in the background of the TV show. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 ben stiller is NOT one of my favorite actors, can he even act? this movie will be either a huge blockbuster or a total bomb. any one pick up the dvd? ss1 Quote
catesta Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 ben stiller is NOT one of my favorite actors, can he even act? Aside from Snoop being cast as Huggy, they totally screwed this up. Stiller is way over used these days, and I can't figure out why, the guy is not even funny. You guys are completely right. Starsky and Hutch were cool not a couple of clowns as portrayed in the new movie. For the movie. For the series. Quote
couw Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Who's gonna play Roscoe P Coltane? this time I got 'em! Quote
couw Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 probably some other dipstick like Ben Stiller... Quote
catesta Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 You're probably right. I however would be more concerned with who would be playing Daisy Duke. Any suggestions? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 they should put some of those spinners on the S & H car. spinners are "dubs" that keep spinning after you've stopped the car. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 tvland is having the s & h marathon tonight. i think about 6 episodes. i saw on their bb that s & h isn't going into the regular tvland rotation. a few years ago they had s & h airing for the whole wekend (48 hours) Quote
catesta Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Isn't the marathon going to be hosted by Stiller and that other dude? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 i think so. i'm gonna get the dvd of the first season. tvland is known for editing the fu#% out of the episodes they air ss1 Quote
catesta Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Tvland has really been pissing me off for the last year or so. I've had it with Leave it to Beaver, Lucy, Andy Griffith in color, and shit like that. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 tvland needs to add some "color" to their line-up, if you catch my drift. shows like good times what's happening the jeffersons or even chico and the man starsky and hutch ss1 Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 i am still trying to figure out why b.e.t. doesn't play those shows. Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Are you saying that TVLand colorized Andy Griffith? Of course, that could be interpreted in more than one way. (Were there any African-Americans in Mayberry? I don't remember seeing any... seems kinda odd for a Southern town.) Re: Starsky and Hutch, J.J. Johnson did some scoring for the show. Quote
catesta Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Are you saying that TVLand colorized Andy Griffith? No, not that they did it, but tvland has been showing the shit latter episodes with no Barney, and when Opie is turning into Richie Cunningham. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 (edited) I recall this hitting the UK screens in early 1978, just as I started doing my teaching practice. All the girls in my classes were in love with David Soul. At the time it was denounced as a sign of the 'dumbing down' of culture [though obviously not using that term!]. Strange how it is remembered now with such affection! 'Batman' got a similar greeting in the mid to late 70s! And seems to have legions of apologists now. I look forward to the 'Pop Idol' nostalgia in 20 years time. Edited March 4, 2004 by Bev Stapleton Quote

Dave James Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 I'm afraid Owen Wilson has become the poster boy for bad career choices. That's kind of unfortunate because in the right vehicle, he's pretty good. I thought he was fine in "Rushmore" and "Meet the Parents" and even better in "Shanghi Noon", but the movies he's done lately are just dreck. Maybe he's become like the late in life version of Lawrence Olivier, i.e. just put a movie deal in front of and tell me where to sign. I don't have to read the script cuz I'll do anything. I know the money is probably pretty good, but you'd think he might pay a little more attention to quality. Up over and out. Quote

All the girls in my classes were in love with David Soul. I was a grade-school student then, and many of the girls in my class shared that feeling, Bev, especially after he started showing up on radio crooning the likes of this: Don't Give Up On Us ( David Soul ) Don't give up on us, Baby Don't make our love seem light The future isn't just one night It's written in the moonlight And painted on the stars We can't change ours Don't give up on us, Baby We're still worth one more try I know we put a last one by Just for a rainy evening When maybe stars are few Don't give up on us, I know We can still come through I really lost my head last night You've got a right to start believing There's still a little love left, even so Don't give up on us, Baby Lord knows we've come this far Can't we stay the way we are? The angel and the dreamer Who sometimes play a fool Don't give up on us, I know We can still come through I really lost my head last night You've got a right to stop believing There's still a little love left, even so Just for a rainy evening When maybe stars are few Don't give up on us, I know We can still come through Quote
