Her family moved to Alaska when she was a child and then to Southern California. Ms. Hamlin also wrote about her pride in being included in an exhibit about one-hit wonders at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. She said she was the first Latina on such a list, as well as the first to appear on Dick Clark’s television show “American Bandstand.” Quote
