JSngry Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Kenny Barron in FINE form, Washingtons Peter & Kenny have a good swing for Lee, and Lee himself is Lee Of Today, obviously old, obviously cranky, and just as obviously playing in that flow of his (and scatting like a Konitizian Louis Armstrong, some might recoil, not me, I mean c'mon Lee Konitz SINGS, warble and all, can't be all THAT cranky!). It's beautiful humanity, fine music, and probably available for a limited time, this being 2017 and all. Gotta love Lee Konitz unless you don't, but if you do, here is the love. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Yeah, I really like this one as well -- glad it's (and he's) here. I believe it is a digital-only release. At least that's how it was presented to me in the Universal/Impulse promo packet. Quote
JSngry Posted March 27, 2017 Author Report Posted March 27, 2017 Digital as in CD? Cause, yeah. https://www.amazon.com/Frescalato-KONITZ-LEE/dp/B01MSUCT1I/ref=sr_1_1_twi_aud_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1490626646&sr=1-1&keywords=lee+konitz+frescalalto Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 ah, I was told it was MP3-only or whatever (when I reviewed it). That's good to see. Quote
JSngry Posted March 27, 2017 Author Report Posted March 27, 2017 I think is was initially a download-only thing, it only shipped, like, last week? It's a really good record. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 I've had very erratic service from Universal. Quote
kh1958 Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 I ordered it from a UK Amazon seller on US Amazon--the CD came pretty fast. Quote

king ubu Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 Gotta get this, then - thanks for the alert! Quote
OliverM Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 (edited) I heard a track from this ... from the radio in a grocery store while buying fruit, it was really good!!! Edited April 14, 2017 by OliverM Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 dang, where are you getting your groceries? Quote
OliverM Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 Ya it should be a good place, I'll have to go back! I was wondering if it was regular radio at jazz hours (7 to 8) or webradio. But there is another grocery shop nearby were one of the cashiers plays great hip hop and discusses about Pharoah Sanders! Quote
Mark Stryker Posted January 14, 2018 Report Posted January 14, 2018 Lee's scats EXACTLY like he plays. His second chorus starting around 4:50 is exceptional -- melodic invention elevates and his eighth notes lock into the beat a little more so the swing goes up a notch too. He was 88 when this was recorded. I hope I'm this feisty at that age. Quote
Clunky Posted January 16, 2018 Report Posted January 16, 2018 This is a pretty good Konitz disc. There's no sense of him running out of puff. I recall a recent Konitz release where he really did sound tired but here that's not the case. If you love Lee well worth it. Beginners look elsewhere. Quote
