HutchFan Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 A drummer's record par excellence. One that's very much "of its time" -- but one that transcends it as well. Good stuff -- even if it isn't quite as strong as The Soulful Rebel & People & Love, the other Lytle CD that I've been digging lately. Quote

Why "Lullaby for a Monster"? (I downloaded it from emusic.com, so I don't have the liner notes.) I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the town in Holland. Is it that Monster? Or is it just a synonym for "virtuoso instrumentalist" -- presumably NHØP? Or maybe Dex himself? Just curious. Quote
Coda Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 Recorded around the date when I was born Quote

I interviewed Dexter around that time, and his wife and child sat outside the studio, and he lovingly referred to the boy (maybe 2ish years old?) as the Little Monster. He was indeed an active lad... Perhaps "Lullaby" was an attempt to quiet him down? Edited November 29, 2018 by Ted O'Reilly Clarity Quote
