The first I heard it was in an under-heated room in November, in the French Quarter, in the early 1990s. It was before the CD reissue, and WWOZ played the album from a cassette copy provided by the family of McNeal Breaux, the bassist on the album. By the way, for those who don't know, Breaux was a relative of the great Wellman Braud: Breaux & Braud both being variant Creole spellings of the same French name. Quote

Cal Tjader - Breathe Easy (Galaxy, 1978) with Hank Jones, Monty Budwig, and Shelly Manne Given the suggestive (porn-like? porn-y? porno-esque?) cover photo, you might reasonably expect equally suggestive wocka-wocka guitars and funky electric basses. But no. It's just a chilled-out, straight-ahead session of jazz standards. One "Hey, it's the 1970's!" aspect of the LP: Hank Jones mostly sticks to electric piano -- which isn't an issue for me, although it might be a source of frustration for others. Quote

duaneiac Posted September 19, 2018 Report Posted September 19, 2018 Kind of appropriate, given the album title, that the image is somewhat skewed. I still miss Jazzbo (aka Jazzbeaux) -- he truly was one of a kind. The main musician of interest to me here is Bob Wilber, playing in a more modern, less swing/traditional mode than I'm used to hearing him play. 2 hours ago, HutchFan said: One "Hey, it's the 1970's!" aspect of the LP: Hank Jones mostly sticks to electric piano -- which isn't an issue for me, although it might be a source of frustration for others. Giving Hank Jones an electric piano is like giving Hank Aaron an aluminum bat! Quote
