duaneiac
From 1982, so it's post-disco, but it does have an undeniable 80's production sound to it (which is not a bad thing, IMO). It's a longtime favorite of mine, one of those albums which always make me feel just a little younger again when I play it. Ernie Watts gets a few brief solo spots on this Quincy Jones produced album, including on a very credible version of "Lush Life", one of the best performances of that tune by a non-jazz singer I have encountered. duaneiac
A mostly solo concert (Howard Johnson joins in on 5 tracks) from 1993. At one point, Taj Mahal has to stop the show to teach the German audience how to clap on 2 & 4 instead of 1 & 3, explaining that this is schwarzer musik! jeffcrom
Sidney Bechet - Tresors (Vogue/BMG). I just recently became aware (through an old thread here) of this four-CD set, which collects Bechet's French Vogue recordings from 1949 through 1952. There is no discographical information other than dates in the booklet, I looked it all up and made my own insert. I'm really enjoying this tonight. JohnS
Another great sounding cassette from a BBC broadcast. David Murray's Anglo--American Big Band Oct 1996. I wasn't at this concert but I caught them at another venue during the tour.
