mjazzg
giving this another try. Liking it a bit more this time, the vocals seem more integrated than on previous listens 38 minutes ago, HutchFan said: Streaming via YT: Johnny Lytle - People & Love (Milestone) One day I will own a copy of that. Some of the background, party-time crowd noise on one of the cuts is unnecessary. Maybe less "window dressing" would have made for a more impactful record. But overall I think the album WORKS -- especially if I think of it as a straight-up soul record, a sort of Ray Charles-less Ray Charles record. Fathead's four-year run from Captain Buckles (1971) to Lonely Avenue (1972) to The Weapon (1973) and Newmanism (1974) is quite a purple patch, imho. jeffcrom
George Adams/Don Pullen Quartet - Live at the Village Vanguard, Vol. 2 (Soul Note) Miles Davis - "Circle in the Round" from the Quintet 1965-1968 box set. I have wanted to like this piece for years. The editing, done by Teo Macero in 1968, is driving me crazy right now- the splices are all too apparent, and the damn thing is far too long. Miles recorded this in pieces, and I think a killer 15-20 minute version could be put together. I wish somebody would take another shot at it.
