Justin V
Satoko Fujii - Jo: I enjoyed my first listen to this one without looking up the personnel first. I received one of her albums a few years ago and my dog ate it when it was still in the shipping envelope.

First I was annoyed by that long and strange introduction speech over the music from the start of the theme Rifftide into Miles´ solo. Miles is really strong on that, he almost had reached to point where he could get near Fats Navarro. James Moody sounds astonishing "modern" and plays some of the most brilliant bop tenor I ever heard, with all respect for Dexter and Wardell. And it´s a rare occasion to hear more solo feature by Dameron. He´s much more than just an "arranger´s style pianist". His solo on Don´t Blame me is beautiful ! JohnS
Now on Volume 1. This was also among my very first purchases too. Couldn't afford the lp so I settled for a Vogue EP with Blues Going Up/Polka Dots and Moonbeams.

mikeweil
Got the Fresh Sound reissue on CD today - nice surprise. This 1972 date would have fitted nicely into the Prestige catalogue of the time. The girl on the cover is Pony Poindexter's daughter Deana, who even sings a bit on twp tracks. Her dad taught her to sing along with the themes. Edited August 30, 2018 by mikeweil
