The cover of Hemphill's Dogon A.D. was least interesting to me, but then the original album is a masterpiece. The poem set to music was very effective. On the whole it sounded like something I will return to often, hence the CD. thanks

duaneiac
Discs 2 & 3 of 4. (First listen to these discs and I guarantee I am not going to try to force them back into the stiff, unyielding, top-loading hardboard pages that were designed to imprison/deface them. I hate product design which looks nice on paper but actually makes the product more frustrating to use by the consumer.) A lot of great music which I have not heard before. Brad
Actually, I had not heard it but I was intrigued by it and listened to it on YouTube and enjoyed it very much. Thank you. I grew up in Latin America and Spain and listening to the album made me wistful for those times.
HutchFan
I spent a lot of time driving in the car this afternoon and evening, listening to jazz all along the way. Style-wise, I covered quite a bit of territory. A couple fusion classics: In 1974 Crosswinds peaked at the 23rd position the Billboard charts. Not on the jazz charts; the pop music charts! Can you imagine a jazz record doing that today?!??! Live Ellington from the stockpile: Lots of terrific Shorty Baker on this disc. Some SERIOUS soul-jazz from Fathead: And, last but not least, some great tenor from Illinois Jacquet:

I also have those mythical recordings in the King Jazz cds (I own all six "Complete Heritage" King Oliver discs) as well as in some diverse compilations. The Archeophone are clearly superior, sound-wise. And the Frog cds cover a later period.
