HutchFan Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 I've spent the last few hours listening to Earl Hines. Four Jazz Giants (Solo Art) All three of these tributes are excellent. Today, I particularly enjoyed the Satchmo tracks. Stephane Grappelli Meets Earl Hines (Black Lion) Wonderfully relaxed duets, full of feeling. Check out their version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Phew! Good! Quote
Tom 1960 Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 This is the 2'nd album I purchased recently of these two gentlemen collaborating. The other being "Satch and Josh". Really nice stuff. Quote

xybert Posted April 19, 2017 Report Posted April 19, 2017 Earlier: Nick Mazzarella Trio - Ultraviolet Chicago... NP: Miles Okazaki - Trickster Second listen. Intriguing album. Not quite sure what i think really. All of it is impressive, some tracks take flight more than others. Some tracks i tire of quickly, others finish too soon. Despite the apparent ambivalence, time for another spin... Quote

I've always loved this music, was so surprised when it was released on LP. Still got my UK CBS 2LP set of this one and it gets regular plays, even though the whole thing is in the Miles Davis megabox. Quote
