John Tapscott Posted August 6, 2018 Report Posted August 6, 2018 (edited) Edited to say - I've been a little late in really appreciating McShann. People would talk about his greatness and I would kind of ignore them, but recently I've come to realize just how great he really was. His playing gives life and lift and sparkle to every session he's on. Edited August 6, 2018 by John Tapscott Quote
HutchFan Posted August 6, 2018 Report Posted August 6, 2018 Now listening to this CD (again): Richard "Groove" Holmes - Comin' on Home (Blue Note) Earlier: Ben Webster - Live at the Haarlemse Jazzclub (Limetree) 14 hours ago, soulpope said: Pure gold. IMHO, Al Cohn was at his very best while he was making records for Xanadu in the latter half of the Seventies. Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 6, 2018 Report Posted August 6, 2018 Eric Dolphy - Stockholm Sessions (Enja) Ellington/Mingus/Roach - Money Jungle (BN, 2002 edition). I somewhat eccentrically listened to just the tracks that weren't on the original LP. It made a pretty good alternate version. Art Tatum - The Best of the Complete Pablo Solo Masterpieces (Pablo). I have the "group masterpieces" box set, but with all the other solo Tatum I have, I feel like this is all I need of the solo box. Quote
