mikeweil Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Starting Sunday with Melvin Rhyne is not tto bad an idea: 2004 New York session by a Japanese guitarist with Melvin Rhyne and Grady Tate. Excellent sound. Kanno is a good modern mainstream player who has his influences but forged his own sound and playing style, and shows in every note how much he appreciates the company of these two veterans. Very nice. At first I was a little mad at myself as I could have ordered a new copy for a dozen bucks less, but the one I got turned out to be signed by the guitarist! Can be found on amazon at acceptable prices, with listening samples. Kyle Asche was next. He plays beautiful guitar, Rhyne as well as with Kanno (this happened to be his last recording session, afaik), drummer Fludas is not quite my taste. But both CDs are equally good, if not breaking new ground. Next is some Dick Katz - nice, but maybe I will sell these again, not fascinating enough after repeated listening. Quote
