mjazzg
Charles Tyler Ensemble - s/t [ESP] an album well worthy of an oversized image  3 hours ago, Clunky said: I know I should go and sit in the dunces corner but I'd not heard of this guy. I streamed his music for an hour last night and was well impressed by Linton Kwesi Johnson, so thanks ! He's still about and performing but not recording, sadly. Soundtrack to my university years, too long ago to mention now

He said that was the album that made him form his working quartet/quintet featuring Steve Gilmore and Bill Goodwin, which stayed together over 35 years, up to Phil's death. Fair enough .... still hard to believe Byard + Davis + Dawson didn`t make him feel comfortable (or at least didn`t challenge him in a positive way ....) as he was used to co-operate with strong individualists like Daniel Humair, George Gruntz, Gordon Beck, Henri Texier, and Ron Mathewson for years .... duaneiac
I've loved this album ever since it first came out. Given his large discography, this album may often get overlooked, but it has some really strong material and performances on it.
