Buddha the Magnificent Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba - I Speak Fula (Out Here Records, 2009). Bassekou plays the ngoni, a traditional “spike lute” ancestor of the banjo, sharing its taut-skinned drum body, percussive attack, and varied picking techniques. Ngoni Ba is the first group built around not one but four ngoni‘s. Got to see these guys at Savannah Music Festival probably about the time this album came out; they were on a double bill with Bill Frisell. Quote
