alankin Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 (edited) Roswell Rudd – Broad Strokes (Knitting Factory Records) A stew from trombonist Roswell Rudd: about half the album consists of a larger ensemble (or a subset): Steve Swell & Josh Roseman (trombones); Ron Finck (alto sax, clarinet); Harvey Kaiser (tenor & soprano sax, clarinet); Matthew Finck (guitar); Ken Filiano (bass); Bill Dotts (electric bass); Lou Grassi (drums); Carlos Gomez (percussion). There are also single tracks with the Steve Lacy (soprano sax) trio w/ Jean-Jacques Avenel (bass), John Betsch (drums) & Elton Dean (alto saxello); with vocalist Sheila Jordan; and with Sonic Youth (Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Lee Ranaldo: guitars, Steve Shelley (drums). Good stuff, with a couple of vocal tracks that aren't by Sheila Jordan that don't work as well. Edited November 30, 2017 by alankin Quote
