Thelonious Monk “The Columbia Years: '62-'68,” Columbia 3 cd set, disc 1

I couldn’t decide which Monk album to play today, and this seemed a good option. Nicely compiled, very nice sounding overview of the Columbia era.

Good choice ....

Well, I was playing a few Bethlehem recordings because a package of new 2024 reissues of four Bethlehem titles was scheduled to arrive this afternoon and it just did.

I was hoping these new remasterings didn’t sound better than the 2013 series that was released in Japan which has been my favored sonic versions, and. . . well they do sound a little better. Perhaps just a tiny bit less “loud” but more open sounding and dynamic by a bit. I’ll try not to buy more, but based on this playback of the first one (one of my favorite discs, period, in my listening history) it will be hard to resist not buying a few more of the titles I like the most.

Dexter Gordon “The Complete Prestige Recordings” 11 cd set, disc 7

Following Lester Young with Dexter Gordon makes complete sense to me this morning.

What Prestige LPs are in this box? Is there any material in it that wasn't released on individual CDs?
