“Introducing Brad Mehldau” Warner Bros cd

Two excellent bass and drum teams forming trios here. An exceptional debut.

The first snow of the year viewed out one of my listening room windows (photo taken by Photobooth of laptop which was sitting on top of my turntable dustcover)

Followed by

Eric Alexander “Mode for Mabes” Delmark cd

Bass – John Webber
Drums – George Fludas
Piano – Harold Mabern
Tenor Saxophone – Eric Alexander
Trombone – Steve Davis
Trumpet – Jim Rotondi

Lars Danielsson, David Liebman, Jon Christensen, Bobo Stenson - Far North (Curling Legs NO, 1994)

As spare and ECM-ish as you might expect.  It was even recorded in Rainbow Studio in Oslo.

Had to cancel a listening session at a friend's place with a very expensive Hi-Fi, so I stay in bed listening to some of the CDs I selected to bring, all solo piano:

Very interesting. I see that he also recorded for Black and Blue.

Have you seen "No Maps On My Taps"? Essential viewing, imo.

At the moment the cd version of this seems only available in Japan, but I had to have a copy so I ordered one and it arrived yesterday. Would have been prohibitively expensive, but I had a lot of points with cdjapan which defrayed the cost.

Joel Ross is on board, one reason that I ordered but I do have almost all of Hill’s previous releases and enjoy the musical journeys he leads one on.

I'm seeing Hill at The Regattabar in Cambridge on December 7th. I'm looking forward to it.

Should be a good show.

And now finishing up listening to . . . .

The amazing SACD stereo/quad release of Santana “Borboletta” from Sony.

This recording is part of my listening foundation, I’ve enjoyed it ever since its first release and man it has never sounded better (listening to the stereo SACD layer). Just such a great sequenced, mixed and performed album now in sonic glory.
