Another really warm fall morning. . . should be beautiful before the rain scheduled to dampen the Halloween outings of neighborhood kiddos.

Revisiting this Sun Ra recording from 1970. Although the music is not that special for Ra recordings, and features the sort of performance art philosophy that honestly turns me off and away from a lot of jazz that is at the very fringes of the tradition, the recording is truly fascinating, showing the depth and vitality of the sound in the theater–a good system really transports you into an audience seat.

Bobby Hutcherson “Happenings” Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD

A very favorite recording in excellent new mastering.

Okay, I don't usually enjoy celeste, but Meade Lux Lewis  is making it sing and swing.

Stanley Cowell “Brilliant Circles” Freedom/Muzak Records lp facsimile cd

Wow. Haven’t heard this session in a long time and it is delivering.

Two alternates on this issue.

Cowell on piano, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Woody Shaw on trumpet, Tyrone Washington on tenor and flute, Reggie Workman on bass, and Joe Chambers on drums
