So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

A cool, still morning. One of “our” owls is making his distinctive call in the wooded side lot we have. I love to hear these birds! Fiona the dachshund is a bit fiesty, but indicates she’ll settle down soon. As I listen I’m finishing up selecting about 35 (mostly Japanese Blue Note) cds for sale. I need the space and new versions have come in or will be soon arriving from Japan.

Joe Lovano “Bird Song” Blue Note cd

This is a session I really enjoy–the two drummers are really well arranged and add a special sauce to this. And the focus on Parker material is successful and seems innovative. The lovely Ms Spalding sounds great here too–her bass is deep sounding and her playing precise.

Joe Lovano, Saxophones
James Weidman, Piano
Esperanza Spalding, Bass
Otis Brown III, Drums
Francisco Mela, Drums

👍  Recording quality could have been better, but it's still good.  The Herd alone tracks are really good; so too are the Getz tracks - Blue Serge and Blue Getz Blues.

Speaking of Getz

Now - discs 2 & 3

I have this series but clearly need to revisit it-particularly this one.

👍 ❤️

Yes an excellent CD-set (also here) even  having most music also on single vinyls.

😄 👍

Both really good swing. This kind of BB swing is missing today.
