rostasi Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 (edited) Amazing man. Amazing works. Bohor, from the Nonesuch LP, is in my top 3 of favorite works of all time, but the late 90s release thru EMF flattened the sound and shaved off the final seconds. The version on this recording brings back its immensity of sound. Edited September 6 by rostasi Quote

Interesting, I went to a discovery day of Xenakis works (and some terrific biographical film) performed by the London Sinfonietta several years ago and was bowled over by a lot of the music but for some reason never followed it up with any extensive listening. Since then he's always been a name that intrigues. Maybe I could start again with this Quote
rostasi Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 You could. It's part of the wonderful boxset of his electroacoustic works that Karlrecords put out at the beginning of 2022. Before my studies with Stockhausen, I had the chance to study with Xenakis, but by that time he was in very poor health and most of the tutoring was done by an assistant. Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 7 Report Posted September 7 My friend Jason Rubin recommended this blues CD containing music during the last two weeks of the 1369 Jazz Club in Cambridge, MA in 1988. Good stuff. His review is here: https://artsfuse.org/297061/jazz-album-review-the-final-days-of-the-1369-jazz-club-rare-and-precious-recordings/ Quote
