A guy I know got in contact with the estate of the bass player that recorded that album, and he said his father recorded a bunch of gigs that this great quartet recorded, and plans to release all of them! I can honestly say that this has been the first jazz guitar recording that brought a big smile to my face throughout its entirety. This was the man that Bird would listen closely to every night JS would be his accompanying act at Birdland, instead of going out and scoring. jazzbo
Deliciously cool out this morning. Walking the old dog is getting harder. . .she doesn't like the dark as much now and she is not as interested in walking. Sat down and decided to spin this one again. Just because. Interesting textures. Oh, it wasn't that much of a surprise at the time, because when I first saw it she was with me and saw me trying to decide on whether to buy it. It was a bit pricey and I had no way of hearing it ... but she knew I had a lot of earlier stuff from them and she bought it later - probably Xmas? - for me. Even tho people send me recordings, nobody attempts to buy any music for me because it would be difficult to say the least. and, yes, recently. It says near the bottom that it was just last Friday. All twenty pieces are done magnificently by her. I've especially liked Maeander for over 50 years now. It hasn't lost it's beautifulness after all of this time.
