Discogs pictures insist on it but I have no recollection of it being on that Everest record. But this does sound familiar from somewhere: So I guess it is there but just didn't take for whatever reason. Maybe "Weaver Of Dreams" just obliterated it Quote

jazzbo Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 This is one of those rare recordings where the engineering is an essential part of the story-telling, and Kevin Gray’s mastering lets that story ring out. Where RVG placed Jones’ drums as an anchor, how delicately he recorded Wilbur Little’s bass and Candido’s drums, where and with such careful attention to volume and intensity he placed the horns and flutes. . . there is mastery here that is a perfect vehicle for the music. This is one of the 85th Anniversary UHQCDs that has really impressed me by bringing out the heart of the music. Elvin Jones “Poly-Currents” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD It’s nice that Mrs. Jones is featured on the cover as well as her composition included is one of the best performances Quote

How does he pronounce his name? Phi-LEEP CAT-er-ina (French)? Or PHIL-up CATHER-in (English)? Or some other way? Edited June 5 by HutchFan Quote

jazzbo Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 This is one I have bought three times. The 2 LP set is gorgeous. The US cd was really nice sounding. Then I bought the Japanese SHM-CD version and was really surprised how superior it sounds to the US cd. A marvelously recorded session played by real masters. And James created a deeply moving tribute to Billie–without singing like Billie at all or even arranging the material in a way that mimicked or echoed the way the material was done for Billie. A very impressive work. Jose James “Yesterday I had the Blues–the Music of Billie Holiday” Blue Note Japan SHM-CD Quote
