You knew you were getting a good album by master musicians with long playing time (45-50 minutes) and beautiful artwork. No compromises on quality in any regard for great mainstream artists who had often been treated shamefully on record in the previous decade. That's sort of my impression from others. . . but I was living in Africa from '66 to '72 and then in rural Ohio from '72 to '80 and no jazz LPs of any kind were everywhere. I had to travel 30 to 45 minutes to record stores with limited jazz inventory. . .and I did, and bought a lot of good LPs, but few Pablos. Those were cd purchases for me in the days when OJC was a great choice nearly everywhere. Quote

My limited LP money in the 70's was spent more on building library of Coltrane, Tyner, Blakey/Jazz Messengers, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, etc. But I did have some Pablo's that I got at good prices, especially a lot of the 1975 Montreux recordings (they also recorded there in 1977). Well I have a different view on that statement and found the Pablo catalogue very exciting. Some great Coltrane and Basie recordings. Dont think there were many of those "one day flies" we see issued so often these days. Pablo had issued real tasteful and excellent recordings with a fine soundquality. Others may see it different because their taste is different. Here is my list and many Items were very good on the sales and I wont miss even one of them. jazzbo Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 (edited) That's correct, I just don't have the impression any particular one was a breakout hit in sales. But then again I was not near record stores or jazz radio stations, and until the 'eighties not really into that mature jazzman mainstream type of jazz. Edited March 27 by jazzbo Quote

Others include Gary Bartz - 'Home' and Sonny Simmons 'Rumasuma'. But it's amazing how much Fantasy did get out on CD before selling to Concord, who has basically mothballed those catalogs. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Haven’t enjoyed this cd in a while. I was thinking of my late first wife Helen, and that led me to think of listening to Helen Merrill, and I saw this one, which was sitting neglected on a shelf a long time. Helen Merrill featuring Stan Getz “Just Friends” Emarcy cd That's correct, I just don't have the impression any particular one was a breakout hit in sales. Quote
