Kevin Bresnahan
Seldon Powell - Seldon Powell Sextet (Roost). This another one of those Japanese CDs I found in the piles at a store the other day. I was told they were from the estate of a huge jazz fan. It made me a bit sad going through his stuff as I could picture someone else doing this with my collection at some point in the (hopefully distant) future. jazzbo
I too can imagine that happening to my collection. I have copies of all the cds you've mentioned.

Here is another one from 1955 featuring J. Nottingham (tp) / Bob Alexander (tb) / Pete (Toots) Mondello (as/bs) / Tony Aless (p) / Billy Bauer (g) / Arnold Fiskin (b) / Don Lamond (dr)

Rabshakeh
Erroll Garner – Afternoon Of An Elf I don't see a great deal of Garner-posting round here. I typically incorrectly associate Garner with the likes of Tatum and Peterson - swing dazzlers with lots of notes (not meaning to suggest that AT and OP are otherwise similar); and I think Garner is like that sometimes, but this is really quite a different record. 4 hours ago, jazzcorner said: Have the Sextet (on vinyl) too. I don't really associate Seldon Powell with the likes of Bauer.

I don't really associate Seldon Powell with the likes of Bauer. Its good mainstream jazz. I do agree that Bauer & Fishkin are rather found with Lennie Tristano than here in such a mainstream oriented group. The liner notes by Barry Ulanov decribe Powell as a new & fresh player on the scene but no comments about the selected musicians.
