jazzbo Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) Miles Davis “The Man with the Horn” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2023 I remember the impact this had in '81 when it was released. I had digested all the electric Miles before this, and had gotten myself grounded in the earlier Columbia albums and some of the Prestige and Blue Note material. And then, out of retirement came this--Marcus Miller made an instant impression on me and a few of my friends. Edited December 4, 2023 by jazzbo Quote

jazzbo Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Something quite different. “Jazz at the New School” cd A well-lubricated session. I think a bass player as sober as a judge would have helped tighten this up. But it’s fun as is and Krupa is really feeling it! Quote

I'm very tempted to order it. This is re: Did These Feet: I like most of the music on the cds but the sound seems "thin" to me (sort of low-fi) maybe because it was all recorded for radio several decades ago. The book is very informative though I didn't really need to know the politics of each musician and didn't Whitney Balliett not Martin Williams coin the term "the sound of surprise"? Quote
