After mastepieces in the 80`s, some mixed releases in the 90`s the band ended their recording activities unexpectedly on on a high in 2005 .... btw there wouldn`t be a great release by the Apache Band without a splendid Thelonious Monk cover ....

Such a fun CD. I haven't played that in a while.

That's not a bad record.

Picked it up because of past comments made here by you!

Any time I post that I’m listening to one of these FilmscoreMonthly-family reissues, it feels like a big yoo-hoo to TTK:

A very fine CD set of Jaws and Griff. Especially the Monk tunes.
Each of them was such an individual player , I never heard them TOGETHER, but of course each of them many many times.
Ben Riley is a fantastic drummer, he must have been very young than.

Larry Gales is solid as ever but could have been recorded better. I was quite astonished that in the early 60´s a bass is recorded that weak. Years before the strong basses of Chambers and Watkins were recorded much better.

Junior Mance, I´m sure a lot of pianists would like to have his skill and tehnique on piano, really great, but in general he sometimes "overplays" it in a manner that is similar to Oscar Peterson.

What an event each of his cds is. What a masterful player and builder of atmosphere.

“Thelonious Monk/Sonny Rollins” Prestige Rudy Van Gelder Remasters cd Japan

So much to discover every time listening to this music. Sonny and Monk seeming to understand the music and its spirit so well together, simultaneously.

The sound on these Concord Rudy Van Gelder Remasters I find very good, especially the mono recordings.
