Such a fun CD. I haven't played that in a while. Quote

Gheorghe Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 A very fine CD set of Jaws and Griff. Especially the Monk tunes. Each of them was such an individual player , I never heard them TOGETHER, but of course each of them many many times. Ben Riley is a fantastic drummer, he must have been very young than. Larry Gales is solid as ever but could have been recorded better. I was quite astonished that in the early 60´s a bass is recorded that weak. Years before the strong basses of Chambers and Watkins were recorded much better. Junior Mance, I´m sure a lot of pianists would like to have his skill and tehnique on piano, really great, but in general he sometimes "overplays" it in a manner that is similar to Oscar Peterson. jazzbo Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) Fabiano Do Nascimento “Preludio” What an event each of his cds is. What a masterful player and builder of atmosphere. Edited December 2, 2023 by jazzbo Quote
jazzbo Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) “Thelonious Monk/Sonny Rollins” Prestige Rudy Van Gelder Remasters cd Japan So much to discover every time listening to this music. Sonny and Monk seeming to understand the music and its spirit so well together, simultaneously. The sound on these Concord Rudy Van Gelder Remasters I find very good, especially the mono recordings.
