sidewinder
This is a delightful find, albeit lo-fi. A miracle that it was recorded. Dick Morrissey and Lennie Best Quartet at a pub gig in Maidenhead, Berks. Bonus is one of Simon Spillett's very best booklet liner notes, captures the era perfectly. Walked past this Victorian pub only last week - obviously much changed since its jazz era ended in 1975 but the building survives. Followed by another Acrobat find. This time a jam session at the Hopbine, North Wembley. Better fi on this one but an equally valuable release.

I remember in my early days of Bud fandom either reading or being advised that this and the Xanadu Bud In Paris were prime examples of later-period Powell in outstanding form. And love hearing Coleman Hawkins and Powell together on the final four tracks. You are right. And I think Bud really was in top form if he had the possibility to play with old comrades who came to visit Europe. Bud with Hawk is fantastic, but I would also include "Blakey in Paris" with Bud playing "Bouncin with Bud" and "Dance of the Infidels" on his highest level. They are among Bud´s very best performances.

ghost of miles
Came across this one used for $6 at my local record shop… one of the joys of in-store browsing is finding albums like this one that weren’t even on my search list. Even so, I think he's made some excellent music. For example, I like these two albums very much: I've never heard Colour of Dream -- it sounds like I need to -- or Valencia. Thanks. Both these albums are good, I've listened to some of each on Youtube. Passage (the first one, piano + percussion) is much more to my taste. Legend of the sea - myself (the second one, more instruments + some voice) reminds me of 12-tone chamber music, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (I recently went on a Second Viennese School binge), but is a sound world I rarely visit these days. Gheorghe
Just perfect for me. On the rare occasions I can spend to listen to a record, mostly after midnight, this is the ideal stuff for me. Such great players, and such great compositions. "Sweet Love of Mine" and "Katrina Ballerina" are tunes I love so much. Some of the best players I ever heard, I had seen the group exactly on those days of early 1983. Then with Steve Turré who is not on this special date. It was THE group of the early 80´s. Some of the best things you could hear then and learn from....
