I’m playing this one again, the second disc. I especially like the pizzicato sections. Hard to believe “These are Soulful Days” is his first composition for strings.

I’d love to have one of those Barney Kessel Gibsons!

This is one funky disc.

I had both of these on lp and sold them to finance my AEC box - I made cdrs of the vinyl and wonder if this issue is derived from "needle drops". FWIW, my discs combined time out over 80 minutes.

i think this record proves that Elmo Hope is not a pianist to play in the background. Like for example Herbie Nichols he is an attention demanding pianist without playing really out.

CD times out at just short of 81 minutes.  Sound quality is plenty good enough, though I think it may be needle drops (but if so, from high quality vinyl).  That company (M.I.G.) has put out some really nice releases over the past couple of years, including a "Gary Bartz NTU Troop LIve at Bremen 1975" 2CD set which is the best Bartz I've ever heard.  Also an excellent Marion Brown Live in Bremen 1969 2CD set from earlier this year, and other interesting Bremen releases.
