Jimmy McGriff “The Main Squeeze” Groove Merchant/Solid Records Japan cd

Jimmy with Jimmy Ponder, Conrad Lester and Eddie Gladden.

I’m a big Jimmy Ponder fan and he makes this session for me. Though the leader is delivering as well. And the engineering! Great job by Malcolm Addey.

Starting the day off with some live Lockjaw–what a unique and spirited player!

Horace Parlan is on piano here and Alvin Queen is on drums. Drummer and jazz character Danny D’Imperio alerted me about 20 years ago to Alvin Queen and his drumming skills–and high taste level.

Reading the article above prompted me to put it on. This is not like anything else really. A lot of history with this one, including having a work partner for a few years in the early 'eighties that was the first person I met who REALLY knew and liked this piece!

Dexter Gordon “Live at the Amsterdam Paradiso Vol.2” Solid Records Japan cd

Starts off with Monk’s “Rhythm-a-ning” which I always hear starting off with the lines from the song: Put another nickel in the nickelodeon. As a kid my Dad always sang that song to us!
