“O Universo Musical de Baden Powell” 2 cd set, disc 1

A friend of mine calls Baden Powell “the Brazilian Kenny Burrell” and it’s easy to hear why.

Great music.

Elis Regina - Elis [1973] (Philips Brazil)
This was Regina's second album to feature the arrangements & playing of César Camargo Mariano. (Mariano was Regina's husband at the time.  In the 1960s, he'd been in the Sambalanço Trio with Airto.)  I enjoy everything I've heard from Regina -- but there's an especially jazzy sophistication to this record that sounds different.  Less belting out songs, more subtlety.  I attribute that to Mariano.
