Rabshakeh Posted August 23, 2023 Report Posted August 23, 2023 John Mayer's Indo-Jazz Fusions With Larry Adler – Indo Jazz Fusions I never really thought of Stan Sulzmann before, although I've seen his name on a number of British jazz records from the era. Did he have any good leader dates? Quote

Did he have any good leader dates? Good question. I have many recordings with Sulzmann, but none with him as leader. Noticed this at Jazz in Britain but didn't purchase. Will listen online today(? or at least soon). Quote

Did he have any good leader dates? A career much more as a sideman than leader. Lovely player, he's still very much about. I used to see him regualrly in Kenny Wheeler bands. This is good from around that time, if I remember correctly and earlier. I'm sure @sidewinder will be able to provide a better overview Quote

Those look really interesting records. This Mayer is the closest I've heard of him to a leader so it was interesting to hear. I'll dive in. Quote

Everything feels overdriven, recording-wise. I realize that this is blaring, LOUD music -- but the recording seems to accentuate that aspect of it. It's distracting (to me, at least). Of course, it might just be my ears. Or I could be bumping up against limitations in my (old-but-trusty) stereo system. So I'm curious: Does anyone have this album on LP? Or, for that matter, the Schema-Rearward CD? If so, does it sound that way to you too? Well I have the same CD edition but cant remember if there was an issue with the sound. So I will play it again within the coming days and will comment on your analysis. Edited August 23, 2023 by jazzcorner Quote

JSngry Posted August 23, 2023 Author Report Posted August 23, 2023 I guess I will never be the BIGGEST Carmen McRae fan. But I like some things here more than I expected. Quote
