I think both at that time were a bit past their prime, at least Dizzy mostly had bands, where he was "supported" by fellow trumpetists like Sandoval, John Faddis etc, so I always wondered how they could manage to make a full album . I had seen a video of Diz with Max also from the 80s, where Diz had a big band and then a vintage bop quintet with the interesting choice of Mulligan on bs, and Max was on drums and it was a wonderful set of some of the best bop standards, almost as good as the "bop session 1975". mikeweil
The Hawk Talks session fron this double CD. A Mosaic box set of the Bellson Clef/Verve sessions would be really great. Much more varied and interesting than Buddy Rich.

The 'Hideaway' album was a gateway from Bowie to Jazz for me. Just looked it up, I saw him in a rammed Town & Country club in 1992, it was great. HutchFan
Now streaming: Quarteto Em Cy (Odeon Brazil, 1972); reissued by Elemental Although they're very different, I think learning to get inside The Singers Unlimited's music laid the groundwork for my understanding of this group. . . . Coming out of bossa nova, this quartet taps into that early-70s Euro-sophistication/decadence vibe, but -- paradoxically -- there's also a strain (maybe even more prominent) of late-60s idealism/pop-innocence. Naturally, they're locked in on that delicious, distinctively Brazilian sway & sinuousness too. Since I don't know Portuguese, I have no idea what they're saying. Regardless, from a purely musical point of view, it's an intoxicating mix. (Im)pure Pop for Now (no-longer-young) People. Rabshakeh
Chick Corea Elektric Band – To The Stars Chick's clientology record. A tone poem inspired by the works of Elron. David Weckl kills on this record, even if it isn't all that great otherwise.

You never quite know what you're gonna get with Chick.

I always found the Elektric Band to be slog through the muck, and is some of the only Chick I have fully excused myself from ever needing to explore further.
