Rabshakeh Posted July 14, 2023 Report Posted July 14, 2023 Herbie Mann – Herbie Mann Returns To The Village Gate I think I may prefer this to the original. Hotter rhythms and less shopworn material. Quote

I picked that one up a few years back after somebody here mentioned it. Thanks for the reminder, just pulled it off the shelf for another go-around. Is that particular lineup documented elsewhere? Really digging this new Montreux series—looking forward to further releases if there are more to come (so far I’m aware of this one and the recent McCoy Tyner): Quote

Its listed in the Arne Astrup revised Stan Getz discography (p. 100) rec. in 1969. As it seems Getz did record only in 1969 with this group in France + a bootleg on the label 'J for Jazz' JFR-804 - location unknown. Same content as on Laserdisc issued also under a different titles & labels on Discogs (6 versions) For details see also MR at Discogs with different versions and titles https://www.discogs.com/master/796314-Stan-Getz-Quartet-Stan-Getz-Quartet Edited July 15, 2023 by jazzcorner link corrected Quote
