jazzbo Posted June 7, 2023 Report Posted June 7, 2023 James Francies “Purest Form” Blue Note cd Just as in the past I would choose an artist such as Wynton Kelly or James Spaulding or Wilbur Ware to aid in exploring new music for a time (by buying sessions where they were sidemen) this decade I have picked Joel Ross and/or Immanuel Wilkins as artists to look for as sidemen on an album. That led me to this one. Not quite what I expected. I’m digesting it. Quote
Justin V Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 I couldn't find a cover image, but I'm listening to Out of the Comfort Zone by Gerald Dunn and the Jazz Disciples, an album produced by Bobby Watson. I found it at a book sale two days ago. He was previously unknown to me, but Dunn is an important member of the KC scene, working as a saxophonist, at the American Jazz Museum and as a promoter. He even has an annual event providing wellness checks to musicians. It's a solid album. Quote

A very different record but that fact makes both records better. Strange that this is the second remix of the record after the Jamie xx one. Were they not happy with it? Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 (edited) Pepper Adams - Ephemera (Spotlite). Why hasn't anyone released this digitally? It's really good and should be available somewhere by now. Edited June 8, 2023 by bresna Quote
