mikeweil Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 While I'm aware that this release contains recordings made without Mrs. Simone's konowledge or consent, their availabilty now seems a blessing for all of us who never had achance to see her perform, especially during her earlier career, of which this disc gives a good impression. mikeweil Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 I like Rouse's sound on this much better than on any other recording, a bit softer, rounder, more refined. What I do not like is Arthur Taylor's drumming on Light Blue - what were they thinking? Quote
mikeweil Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 It's a lot of fun to play this Japanese remaster LOUD! Quote
sonnyhill Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) I usually do not care for ECM's production values. To my hearing, many ECM recordings sound "stuffy" and the music sounds "constricted." This one does not suffer from those issues -- it has a beautiful open sound. duaneiac Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Easily this week's best $1.95 find. A fine compilation of Goffin & King songs which includes some songs I'd never heard of such as "Let's Turkey Trot" by Jan & Dean (thanks, but no thanks, boys), some songs I did not know were G & K songs (like the BS&T selection) and some songs done by some one other than the expected artists (such as the Laura Nyro and Peggy Lee selections). "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is such a great song and "Just Once In My Life" is a good song and a terrific record. Edited August 31, 2017 by duaneiac Quote
