I heard that Carl Saunders passed away last night. R.I.P. A wonderful musician and trumpet player, jazz and/or lead (Bill Holman Band). This is a very fine recording.

Dave Douglas “Stargazer” Arabesque Records cd

“Honoring the music of Wayne Shorter”–six originals and three Shorter compositions. I have probably not heard this since I left Texas. It’s a good one.

I still consider this one Douglas' best CDs. I haven't played it in a while myself. Maybe time to pull it off the shelf again.

Kenny Dorham "Whistle Stop" Blue Note Japan 24bit by RVG cd

A few years ago I made my Blue Note recordings harder to find (almost all my collection is in bookcases where I have four rows of cds, two behind and two in front, so the Blue Note were put in rows behind others) as I was playing them so often, but now it's time to listen to more Blue Notes, especially the 24bit by RVG series from Japan, so I moved those to front rows of a book case.

Kenny and Hank are always a good combo! Add Philly Joe and you have a hard bop showcase.

CD compiles both Bolivia and Under Fire.  For me, a desert-island disc.

One of my all time favourites. So I didn´t know anything about any religion, this music has a very moving quality for me. I cannot and could not listen to such stuff every day, since I have to study more what will be played, but if I have the time and the patience, I love to listen to it. Love the sound of it !

Very sorry to hear this sad news - RIP. Very versatile player - didn’t he start out on Mellophonium? News such as this is pretty depressing as I always thought of him as a key West Coast ‘keeper of the flame’.
