It was recorded in 1978 when I saw him here in Viena for the first time but don´t remember who was with him. I also saw him in 1979 and can´t recall who was with him. Here it is two top notch all star quartets featuring Chick Corea, Tony Williams, great !

jazzbo
Started off with Count Basie Trio “For the First Time.” This is an exceptional session with Ray Brown and Louie Bellson, and the recording is great with a cool stereo effect on the organ tracks. (Basie was an interesting organist). 600×596 72.2 KB Followed by something very different, Nucleus “Live at the BBC” box set, disc 3 BBC Radio 1 Top Gear, 27 March 1971 Presented by John Peel Snakehips’ Dream Song For The Bearded Lady Morning Call Soprano/Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Brian Smith Baritone Saxophone/Oboe – Karl Jenkins Trumpet/Flugelhorn – Ian Carr Piano/Electric Piano – Karl Jenkins Guitar – Chris Spedding Bass – Jeff Clyne Drums – John Marshall BBC Radio 1 John Peel Sunday Concert, 18 April 1971 Presented by John Peel Song For The Bearded Lady Snakehips’ Dream Crude Blues Part Two Soprano/Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Brian Smith Baritone Saxophone/Oboe – Karl Jenkins Trumpet/Flugelhorn – Ian Carr Piano/Electric Piano – Karl Jenkins Guitar – Chris Spedding Bass – Jeff Clyne Drums – John Marshall 600×591 107 KB

HutchFan
It's turning out to be a piano trio sort of morning. From one favorite to another:
Peter Friedman
I really like this early Blue Note Clifford Jordan album, as I do his quintet album with Art Farmer and Sonny Clark also on Blue Note.

HutchFan
Another piano trio. But this time I'm hopping across the pond and visiting an Englishman. I've said it before but I'll say it again: Garrick's early-70s run on Argo was stupendous. From The Heart is a Lotus (1970) through Troppo (1974), he was on fire. I like his stuff before and after -- but it seems like that five-year period was his peak, a real purple patch recordings-wise.

Absolutely. Then after ‘Troppo’ it went pretty quiet on the recording front until about 1980 and ‘You’ve Changed’ with Don Weller on the Hep label. Fortunately after about 1990 he did get to record more often but largely for his own label. In the ‘quiet’ period I do recall listening to occasional (annual?) late night broadcasts on BBC by his Sextet though. Wish I’d recorded them ! Thinking about it, The last time I saw Garrick perform was in 2010 I think, for the Ian Carr Tribute concert at QEH. He had his Sextet with Norma Winstone and Art Themen, plus Don Rendell guesting on a few numbers. The late Trevor Tomkins was on drums I think, plus Henry Lowther on trumpet. Will have to check.
