I love it, one of my favourite Joe Henderson albums. It was recorded in 1978 when I saw him here in Viena for the first time but don´t remember who was with him. I also saw him in 1979 and can´t recall who was with him.

Here it is two top notch all star quartets featuring Chick Corea, Tony Williams, great !

Started off with Count Basie Trio “For the First Time.” This is an exceptional session with Ray Brown and Louie Bellson, and the recording is great with a cool stereo effect on the organ tracks. (Basie was an interesting organist).

Those were the days !  The nearest that BBC Radio 1 gets to jazz these days is Taylor Swift.

Another piano trio.  But this time I'm hopping across the pond and visiting an Englishman.

I've said it before but I'll say it again: Garrick's early-70s run on Argo was stupendous.  From The Heart is a Lotus (1970) through Troppo (1974), he was on fire.  I like his stuff before and after -- but it seems like that five-year period was his peak, a real purple patch recordings-wise.

Absolutely. Then after ‘Troppo’ it went pretty quiet on the recording front until about 1980 and ‘You’ve Changed’ with Don Weller on the Hep label. Fortunately after about 1990 he did get to record more often but largely for his own label. In the ‘quiet’ period I do recall listening to occasional (annual?) late night broadcasts on BBC by his Sextet though. Wish I’d recorded them !

Thinking about it, The last time I saw Garrick perform was in 2010 I think, for the Ian Carr Tribute concert at QEH. He had his Sextet with Norma Winstone and Art Themen, plus Don Rendell guesting on a few numbers. The late Trevor Tomkins was on drums I think, plus Henry Lowther on trumpet. Will have to check.
