Interesting individual player, he's a good composer too, very together trio, vivid live recording, varied program (e.g. Thad Jones "Zec," Ellington's lovely "Reflections in D," Strayhorn's "Johnny Come Lately").

Possibly the least essential of the Bud Freeman Classics discs as there's some tom-foolery here (making fun of modern jazz in the high falutin' accent that he liked to project) and a lot of sides with a female singing group that aren't the cat's meow. But still. . . a fun listen for a Friday morning.
