Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin – Battle Stations (Prestige, 1963)

Such an excellent date.

Query whether it is the best of all the records that they did together. It's a high bar.

My favourites are the live ones:

Looks interesting. I only know his work with Peter Leitch.

I only knew Swana's and Landham's names, I suppose because the others are solely Philly based, but it's music of the highest standard.

Do I recall that this one got the Larry Kart seal of approval?

Enjoyed the heck out of both of those Swana-Philly albums. Those tenor men, and the the rhythm section, and Swana too of course. Larry Kart

How does this one compare to the four Minton's records, Tenor Scene, and the three "Sets", and to the Twofer with the same name?

A considerable research project, which I'm not prepared to undertake at the moment. ^_^

It's excellent as is vol.1 (Criss Cross 1203).

That one I wanted to post a long time ago (I love the cover), after I had stumbled upon it diggin up Cal Tjader's Soul Burst, but I still have them lying around without having played them.
