Rabshakeh
Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin – Battle Stations (Prestige, 1963) Such an excellent date. Query whether it is the best of all the records that they did together. It's a high bar.

jazzbo
Sheila Jordan "Winter Sunshine" Justintime cd Great rapport with the crowd, and love how she incorporates new lyrics and pronouncements into the songs. sidewinder
Amazingly, have never heard this before. Superb - and at less than £5 for the French CBS reissue, a bargain.

I only knew Swana's and Landham's names, I suppose because the others are solely Philly based, but it's music of the highest standard. Do I recall that this one got the Larry Kart seal of approval? Enjoyed the heck out of both of those Swana-Philly albums. Those tenor men, and the the rhythm section, and Swana too of course. A considerable research project, which I'm not prepared to undertake at the moment.

Herbie Mann Plays Afro-Cuban Jazz" recorded live at New York City's Basin Street East in June 1959. Verve cd. Herbie Mann flute, bass clarinet, Carlos "Valdes percussion, vibraphonist Johnny Rae, bassist Knobby Totah, and percussionists Santos Miranda and Luis Mangual. That one I wanted to post a long time ago (I love the cover), after I had stumbled upon it diggin up Cal Tjader's Soul Burst, but I still have them lying around without having played them.
