I agree. 

I think his follow-up release with the same band -- Audio-Visualscapes -- is a more consistent, better album.

That one is a freaking classic, imo  The Osby/Thomas tandem at the apex of their thing, and Jack doing what Jack always does, which is to kick dat ass. In this case, dat ass kicks back!
