JSngry Posted April 25, 2022 Author Report Posted April 25, 2022 How refreshing it is to see a Blues record with liner notes - lengthy ones at that - composed by the artist themself. Also refreshing to hear the results of having a not-outstanding artist backed by jazz musicians who know how to play blues with empathy, as opposed to some stylistically indigenous players of equal or lower quality of not-outstanding-ness. Like a well-mixed drink, this one goes town smooth and repetition works in its favor. Oh, btw - Curtis Amy is RIGHT on this record. right in every way. Quote

Kyoto Jazz Massive actually popped up in the continued play algorithm once that Of All the Things record played through and I dug that sound too. United Future Org will be checked out as well. Rabshakeh Posted April 25, 2022 Report Posted April 25, 2022 Giorgio Gaslini Quartet – Dalla Colonna Sonora Del Film "La Notte" (Cinevox, 1967) This is a great one. Some beautiful compositions. Sadly, streaming it whilst wearing a tracksuit like a schlub, rather listening to it on pristine ultra rare original pressing vinyl, in my fur coat. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted April 25, 2022 Report Posted April 25, 2022 Don Ellis- How Time Passes (Candid, 1960) My first listen to this one. I'm quite struck by how much it anticipates some of the Second Quintet's most famous moves, but also by how much less I enjoy it than those later records. Quote

JSngry Posted April 26, 2022 Author Report Posted April 26, 2022 One of those records that damn near everybody can enjoy to one degree or another. Me myself, I never give it the "one and done treatment", it plays more than a few time before it goes out. Quote
