Ray Drummond was very much in demand at that time, but I never saw Sam Jones live. Lucky to have seen Sam Jones three times: in 1959 with the Gillespie quintet that recorded Have Trumpet Will Excite, in 1964 with the Adderley sextet with Zawinul and Chas Lloyd and in 1969 with the Oscar Peterson trio. Now playing: Ex-Messenger Philip Harper, today one of Smalls' most popular artists. Edited April 17, 2022 by BillF Quote

Later there were more concerts at TU, but in late 78 and early 79 I saw two concerts at WU (Joe Henderson quartet, George Coleman quartet. I remember this, because it was in the 18th district and you had to go the way up from the Stadtbahnstation (now U6). My sister studied at WU when it still was "Hochschule für Welthandel"..... Quote

jazzbo Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 "PIANO SOLO AT BARLOYD'S" (9-CD BOX SET) Nine Parisian jazz pianists record a disc each of solo piano on a restored vintage Steinway in a Paris apartment. Fascinating for little old solo piano loving me. Disc 1 right now. https://dgwh4hty77sxy.cloudfront.net/59952/piano-solo-at-barloyd-s-9-cd-box-set.jpg Quote

jazzbo Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 (edited) A pure slice of nostalgia for me. . . brings me right back to my college days and the years beyond. What it must have been like to have been there in the audience for these performances! Donny Hathaway "Live" And I share Donny's philosophical belief that "Everything is Everything."
