jazzbo Posted March 25, 2022 Report Posted March 25, 2022 (edited) I needed some soothing. So I spun two discs from soothing singers. Eliane Elias "Love Stories" Then Helen Merrill "Lilac Wine" That worked! Now I need something more bracing. . . Thelonious Monk "Live at the It Club" disc 2 (I am finally getting used to the remastered It Club recordings, after decades of listening to them on LP with Columbia reverb painted on heavily). Peter Friedman Posted March 25, 2022 Report Posted March 25, 2022 Brew Moore with a variety of sidemen. Brew is known to have said (paraphrase) "If a tenor player does not play like Prez he is wrong". Most of the other tenor players influenced by Lester Young were also influenced to a lesser extent by Charlie Parker. The other exception is Paul Quinichette. Quote

JSngry Posted March 26, 2022 Author Report Posted March 26, 2022 Always pretty good, sometimes very good. Billy Bang's contributions to the the ensemble sound (where they are) are significant. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) If you get more bounce with Curtis Counce do you get more crunch with Johnny Bunch? Can you get more smack with Roberta Flack? Edited March 26, 2022 by Chuck Nessa Quote
Pim Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 Hard to go wrong with such a killer band: Joe Henderson, Kenny Garrett, Steve Nelson, Mulgrew Miller, Christian McBride. This album kicks ass Quote

Great ! My aims was to play Dizzy Athmosphere at that tempo, really a challenge Quote
