It's an unbelievable record. Featuring what may be the worst shirt choice in jazz on the front cover.

Seen in real time (and in color!), it makes wonderful "hip old guy" sense.

Hines' toupee choices, otoh...not so much (if at all).

You saw him?

and Yes, those toupees: Industrial strength,

Not him, but I saw literally hundreds (conceivably more?) of people of his age and general "hipness" dressing like that back in the day. Often roomfuls at once.

Those 70s old people were not afraid to be gaudy...I thin they kind of dug it, actually. Why not? They're old and still alive and kicking, flaunt it like that!

I saw Budd Johnson with the Earl Hines Quartet but it was 1965 and they wore business suits.

... from the Mosaic Selct box with  Pacific Jazz piano trios - although this was first issued on Liberty and recorded ny Nocturne but never released on that label. Fresh Sound did a reissue later on. There is one Japanese reissue of the Liberty LP that sounds like a needle drop of a worn LP copy!

Lee Morgan & Oscar Peterson

hello

Just wonderful !

I never had thought that Lee Morgan performed with the Oscar Peterson Trio.

The Messengers All Star Band is phantastic. I only saw an excerpt of it on the Blue Note documentary film.
Does a DVD of the whole event exist ?
Once I also saw on you tube some shortages of a Japanes BN Festival at the Mount Fuji, but I don´t know if it exists as whole performances, CD or DVD....

Perhaps the Horace Silver date I most consistently overlook/forget about.

I never understood the cover on that one, the coloring. It looks sun-faded or something.

But that's where "Moon Rays" lives, so get, right!
