I love Solal with Konitz (really love - some of my favourite tunes and albums) but I am otherwise allergic to him. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 Currently on: Tjader Plays Mambo (Fantasy, 1954) Not my favourite Tjader Fantasy, but good enough. I love the simplicity of the cover. Quote

I've noticed that many (most?) listeners have STRONG reactions to Solal's music. Very positive or very negative. Like super-strong coffee. I suppose it's obvious that I think he's the bee's knees. It sounds like you might be one of the few in the middle -- with a "Konitz clause." Edited January 6, 2022 by HutchFan Quote

In terms of just a track, rather than the whole record, their version of Just Friends on Satori is really up there for me. Quote

You'll get no argument from me on that. I think Satori is a masterpiece from start to finish. Edited January 6, 2022 by HutchFan Quote

Peter Friedman Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 (edited) After reading that exchange re: Solal and Konitz, I played this one. I prefer my Konitz with Sal Mosca, Ronnie Ball and a few other pianists. Edited January 6, 2022 by Peter Friedman Quote
jazzbo Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 Orquestra Tabajara De Severino Araújo "Tabajara Plays Jobim" A really dynamic, fun disc. Quote

jazzbo Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 (edited) Re-spinning this one, Doug Carn "Infant Eyes." This is one of the nicest recordings in the Black Jazz label if you ask me, just nicely engineered to an enveloping sound field. And great playing, and singing by Mrs. Carn. "Always keep room in your heart for love." Real Gone Music managed to reissue all the catalog! A wonderful thing! Edited January 6, 2022 by jazzbo Quote
Peter Friedman Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 To be honest, found this one to be rather dull. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 6, 2022 Report Posted January 6, 2022 Gonzalo Rubalcaba "Antiguo" Blue Note cd From what I think of as his "Zawinul" period. Still dig it. Followed by disc 2 of Lee Morgan "Complete Live at the Lighthouse" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD edition. Quote
